Seeking Peace & Pursuing it
Let us begin with Psalm 34 for our Bible study and search for peace. Read the full Psalm then let us reflect on verse 14:
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. – Psalm 34:14
Simple words but such a deep message. In our walk in this life, we need to take great heed of our individual purpose instilled in us by God, the Father. Each of us has been given various gifts by God in order to serve him and his glorious kingdom by giving to and helping others. Be mindful in your life to turn away from evil and to do good unto others. God is instructing us to do good things for others as he does good things for each of us. As we do our part by serving others, the Lord Jesus Christ is offering us his peace, A state of restful bliss in the midst of the storms of this life. We need to seek his peace and pursue it in order to have a calmness and level headedness about us in times of turmoil. Let us search the scriptures for our guidance. Let us begin:
Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace.
There is deceit in the hearts of those who plot evil, but joy for those who promote peace.
These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; do not plot evil against your neighbor, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this, declares the Lord.
This is what the Lord Almighty says: “The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore, love truth and peace.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
2 Corinthians 13:11
Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
1 Thessalonians 5:13
Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
James 3:17-18 “Two Kinds of Wisdom”
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
